As 2026 planning estimates in CAD, a sectional (spot) liner typically quotes $2,500 to $6,500 for the first section, a full-length CIPP liner on a 15 to 25 m lateral $9,000 to $28,000, and pipe bursting $10,000 to $30,000. An excavated spot repair runs about $3,500 to $16,000 depending on depth and surface. The right price is the one that fixes your defect the first time.
- A camera inspection with a locate, about $250 to $600, comes before any honest repair price.
- Sectional liners: $2,500 to $6,500 for the first section and $1,500 to $3,500 for each extra one on the same visit.
- Full liners: roughly $500 to $1,200 per metre after setup, plus cleaning and each reopened connection.
- Digs for a belly, collapse or blocking offset: about $3,500 to $9,000 under lawn, $7,000 to $16,000 deep or under hard surfaces.
- Access, cleaning, connections and restoration move a quote more than the liner itself.

01 /What does trenchless sewer repair cost in 2026?
The ranges below are planning estimates for residential work in Canada. They agree with the published cost pages on sister sites SewerQuotes.com and SewerReplacement.ca, so the same job should not look cheaper on one HAUSE site than another.
| Work | Typical quoted range | What it renews |
|---|---|---|
| Camera inspection with recorded video and locate | $250–$600 | Nothing; the diagnosis |
| Sectional (spot) liner, first section | $2,500–$6,500 | About one defect |
| Each extra sectional liner, same visit | $1,500–$3,500 | One more defect |
| Full-length CIPP liner, 15–25 m lateral | $9,000–$28,000 | The whole lined length |
| Pipe bursting, 15–25 m lateral | $10,000–$30,000 | The whole burst length; can upsize |
| Excavated spot repair, lawn, up to about 2.5 m deep | $3,500–$9,000 | One short section, new grade |
| Excavated spot repair, deep or under concrete or asphalt | $7,000–$16,000 | One short section, new grade |
| Excavated repair under a basement slab | $4,000–$12,000 | One short section under the floor |
| Open-cut replacement, 15–25 m lateral | $12,000–$35,000+ | The whole line, new grade |
Joint grouting has no published range here, because residential grouting is priced so differently from job to job; ask for a per-joint price, as described in sewer joint grouting.
02 /What goes into a full-liner quote?
A full-length liner is priced from its parts. Knowing them lets you read a quote line by line and ask why one contractor's number is higher.
| Line item | Range | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Mobilisation and setup | $500–$2,000 | Equipment, site protection, locates if a pit is needed |
| Cleaning and preparation | $400–$2,500 | Root mass, scale, grease, number of passes |
| Liner and resin, installed | $500–$1,200 per metre ($150–$365 per foot) | Diameter, thickness, resin and cure method |
| Reinstating each branch connection | $300–$1,200 | Number and type of connections, seals used |
| Access pit where no cleanout exists | $1,500–$4,500 plus restoration | Depth and surface |
| New exterior cleanout | $600–$2,500 | Often installed in the same pit |
For an 18 m lateral with one connection, those parts add up to roughly $10,200 to $27,300 before any access work, which sits inside the $9,000 to $28,000 range for a 15 to 25 m line. Reopening connections is explained in lateral reinstatement and connection seals.
03 /Spot repair or full liner: a worked example
Take an 18 m clay lateral with roots at a joint at 4.5 m and a crack at 11 m, a usable basement cleanout and one branch connection. These are the default inputs of the Spot Repair or Full Liner? planner, and the arithmetic is the same as the tool's.
| Plan | Calculation | Planning range |
|---|---|---|
| Two sectional liners | $2,500–$6,500 + $1,500–$3,500 | $4,000–$10,000 |
| One full liner | $500–$2,000 setup + 18 m × $500–$1,200 + $400–$2,500 cleaning + $300–$1,200 connection | $10,200–$27,300 |
| Add a belly at 8 m to either plan | One dig under lawn | +$3,500–$9,000 |
The sectional plan costs less and renews about 2 m of pipe. The full plan costs more and seals every joint on a line where every joint is the same age as the one that failed. On old clay, that makes it a close call, and the planner says so. If a belly is present, both plans carry the same dig, which is the hybrid described in when excavation is necessary.
04 /What drives the price up or down?
- Length of run: liner or pipe material and install time scale with the metres between access points.
- Pipe diameter: a 100 mm house lateral is priced very differently from a 150 mm or larger shared or commercial line.
- Access and cleanouts: a usable cleanout avoids a pit; adding a cleanout is often part of the scope.
- Pipe condition: heavy roots, scale, offsets or partial collapse mean more preparation before lining or bursting.
- Connections: each branch reopened and sealed inside a liner is its own line item.
- The municipal tie-in: work at the property line or into the main can add permits, inspection and coordination. SewerQuotes.com's published line items put work at the main or in the road anywhere from nothing, where the municipality handles it, to $15,000 or more with a road cut.
- Restoration: landscaping, concrete, decking or interior finishes over any pit or dig; SewerQuotes.com lists restoration from about $500 for seed to $15,000 or more for hard surfaces.
- Urgency and records: active backups and after-hours work are quoted separately, and fuller reporting for insurance or a sale can add scoping time.
Permit fees depend on the municipality and the scope; confirm them with your municipality or ask the contractor to show the fee on the quote.

05 /What is usually not included in a trenchless quote?
Read the exclusions as carefully as the price. The items below are the ones most often missing or listed as extras.
- The camera inspection itself, if done by a different company.
- Clearing an active blockage before the repair.
- Post-cleaning and final video, or the files themselves.
- Reinstatement of branches beyond a stated number.
- Extra pits if a bursting head stalls or a hidden obstruction is found.
- Restoration beyond backfill: sod, concrete, pavers, flooring or finishes.
- Work on the municipal side of the property line.
- Permit fees and inspection bookings.
- Removing and refitting a backwater valve on the line.
Price the same scope from every contractor, on the same footage, and ask for missing items to be added as lines. The questions to ask are gathered in how trenchless sewer repair works, and sister site SewerQuotes.com has tools for comparing quotes side by side.
06 /Is trenchless repair cheaper than digging?
It depends on what the dig would go through. Under driveways, patios, mature trees and finished basements, restoration can cost as much as the pipe work, and trenchless repair usually wins. On a short, shallow run under open lawn, a dig can be cheaper and gives new pipe on new grade. For a belly or collapse, the dig is not optional at that spot.
The trenchless fit checker raises or lowers digging on exactly these factors.
07 /Costs in Calgary and Alberta
Calgary prices generally sit within these national ranges, with a few local factors. Frozen ground raises the cost of any pit or dig in winter, while liners installed from inside are less affected. Laterals in a cold climate tend to be deeper, which favours trenchless repair over trenching. Many established communities have mature trees and landscaping over the service route, raising the restoration cost of a trench.
Ownership matters for who pays: in Calgary the City owns the sanitary service from the main to the property line and the homeowner owns the rest, according to the City's open-data description, so a fault on the City side is a call to 311 rather than a private repair. Local detail is in the Calgary guide. When you have a quote, send it and your footage to the HAUSE Sewer desk for a second look.
FAQQuestions people ask
How much does trenchless sewer repair cost?
As 2026 planning estimates in CAD, a sectional liner typically starts at $2,500 to $6,500, a full liner on a 15 to 25 m lateral runs $9,000 to $28,000, and bursting $10,000 to $30,000.
What is the cost per foot of trenchless sewer repair?
For a full liner, roughly $500 to $1,200 per metre, or about $150 to $365 per foot, after setup, cleaning and connections are added.
What does a single-defect repair plan at, liner or dig?
A sectional liner plans at $2,500 to $6,500 for the first section. An excavated spot repair is about $3,500 to $9,000 under lawn and $7,000 to $16,000 deep or under hard surfaces.
Why do trenchless quotes vary so much?
Access, cleaning effort, the number of connections, the liner system and restoration differ between contractors. Compare quotes built on the same footage, line by line.
Does the city pay for any of my sewer repair?
Only for the part it owns, where it owns part. In Calgary that is the section from the main to the property line; call 311 if the fault may be there.
